Morty Zimmerman, ex-English teacher and would-be writer, leaves his small hometown in Potato Central under a burning cloud, after being accused of perverting the minds of his high school students with unsuitable, off-syllabus literature. He makes his way to Tinsel Town in a beat-up VW Volkswagen van, where he tries to make it as a screenwriter. Morty is on an odyssey in a make or break attempt to become a professional writer. The would-be author has no shortage of material, derived from strange and unnerving encounters, while unrequited love and constant rejection of his work cause depression and suicidal thoughts.
